Mulled Cider with Hot Buttered Rum

Maybe just a collection of some of my favourite words, maybe the most delightful festive drink to hold between mittened fingers…


Buttered Rum:

100g Rum

25g Butter

1 Orange, juiced & Zest

Mulled Cider

1 Litre Cider

500ml Fresh Apple Juice

2 Cinnamon Sticks

8 Cloves

2 Star Anise

¼ tsp Fresh Grated Nutmeg


1. Begin with the Cider. Add the Apple Juice and spices to large pan and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 20 minutes, add the cider and warm through. Remove from the heat and pop on the lid.

2. For the Rum, add the ingredients to a small pan, bring to a simmer but do not boil.

3. Ladle the cider into glasses, top with 25ml of rum and feel that glow rise from within.
