Peachy Glühwein

Does anything sing more of the Holidays than Mulled Wine? Glogg, Gluhwein, Punch, they all just smell of Festive Joy. I am not a fan of red wine, put pop a steaming hot mug of crimson liquor in my hand, the waft of tannic clementine and spice condensing on my face, and you have my heart.

This year I have added a twist, something to negate the tannic astringency of red wine. Peach Schnapps mellows the flavours, its sweetness allowing the spices to sing.

Ingredients:

750ml Fruity Red Wine, something you would quite happily drink on its own

200ml Peach Schnapps

3 Cinnamon Sticks

1 Star Anise

2 Clementine, cut into slices

8 Cloves

40g Caster Sugar

Method:

1. Add all ingredients, apart from the schnapps to a large saucepan and heat over a medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.

2. Turn off the heat, cover and allow to infuse for 15 minutes.

3. Add the schnapps and gently warm through once more. Serve hot, spices included.
